1. A twinkle light curtain, because decorating with roommates can be a battle, but this is one piece of cute decor you can certainly agree on.

amazon.com, Amazon

Promising review: “Perfect for my small apartment! These lights added such a cozy touch to my dining room!” —Brandon Youngman

Get it from Amazon for $17.99.

2. A decorative window film to cover any oddly placed windows (HOW many places have I rented with a window right next to the toilet?!) while adding a fun sparkly touch to the room.

amazon.com

Promising review: “I have a weird skinny window in my house where no normal window covering works. People walking on our community trail can see up into our upstairs bathroom when the light is on and it’s dark outside. Not a good plan at all. So I used this window film and cut different sized circles and placed then on this window to interrupt the view into the house. Worked perfectly! Very easy to use.” —Marsgard

Get it from Amazon for $7.63+ (available in eight sizes).

3. A set of Command hooks for hanging almost anything without causing any damage to your walls — a renter’s dream product. I always keep a hearty stash of these in case I simply NEED to display necklaces, make a key hook, or hang a towel in a more convenient spot.

amazon.com, amazon.com

Promising review: “We do not have a closet near our front door and needed a simple way to allow guests to hang their coats during a visit. These hooks worked and, because of the white color, are not noticeable when not in use. They even allow me to hang my purse temporarily from time-to-time. Because we are renting, I am super happy that they can be removed without damage and reused again in the future.” —L. K. Lawson

Get a seven-pack from Amazon for $9.99.

4. Or Command poster strips for displaying artwork or anything else relatively light without creating holes you’ll have to fill in to get your security deposit back. I challenge you to find *less* than 100 uses for these.

amazon.com

Back in the day, I used to just use the sticky part of command hooks to hang posters, but then I was stuck with useless hooks. Luckily, the good people at Command now sell *just* the sticky part, which has never given me trouble when removing it from paper.

Promising review: “Used these to keep my posters, art prints, and frames up within a space I’m renting so that I wouldn’t have to worry about putting wholes in the what with nails or tacks and it did amazingly. It kept all of my wall decor up with out damaging the wall or the stuff itself for well over a year. It came off the walls with ease and I seriously recommend these to anyone!” —Cesar

5. An oven thermometer so if your landlord didn’t provide you with the best oven, you can still know what temperature you’re at. Nothing worse than a bake turning out poorly because of an inaccurate oven.

Amazon

Promising review: “This is a great value for the product. The ovens I have used have always seemed to be a bit off, so this was very important to have around the house especially for recipes that need a very specific temperature. My wife bakes a lot and before having an oven thermometer, she often times over-baked or under-baked her recipes. This thermostat can hang easily on the oven rack and is easy to read, making it helpful for any dish that needs to be baked at a certain temperature. Highly recommend this product!” —Abe

Get it from Amazon for $7.96.

6. A TubShroom to catch all the stray hair that would normally get caught in your drain — no more snaking pesky blockages or having to pester the landlord to call the plumber.

amazon.com

Promising review: “I was skeptical about this little rubber strainer, but I needed something to save my drains from the piles of hair that fall out of my head. I tried others, and they all failed miserably. This thing is amazing! It fit into my standard drain perfectly, and I don’t think a single hair slipped by it. It was pretty gross to see how much hair I lost in just one shower, but it was comforting to know it wasn’t clogging my drain. Cleanup is super easy, too. I just took a tissue and wiped it from top to bottom, grabbing all the hair as the soft rubber strainer released it all easily. Not a hair was caught in it. Best strainer I’ve ever had. I strongly recommend it!!!” —Lawyer For Justice

Get it from Amazon for $12.99 (available in six colors).

7. A bottle rack for finally organizing the unstable mountain of reusable water bottles in the house. How have you guys acquired so many?!

Amazon

Promising review: “I love love love this product! I love water bottles and have acquired a ridiculous amount! The whole top of my cupboard was full of a super messy pile of bottles that were always rolling out. My cupboard is so so so much better! The water bottles look great and they don’t fall out on me anymore! It is amazing! And I love that it holds so many!” —Hm247

Get it from Amazon for $17.99+ (available in two sizes).

8. A large bottle of plant-based bathroom cleaner to keep handy so nobody has an excuse not to pitch with the scrubbing. Would I encourage you to passive aggressively leave this in front of your roommate’s door if it’s been a while since they cleaned? No. But I won’t discourage it either.

Pur Home

Pur Home is a Black- and woman-owned company whose cleaning products are natural, eco-friendly and made with only plant-derived ingredients. Their products contain no laureth sulfates, petroleum solvent, parabens, ethers, synthetic fragrances, dyes, or ammonia. This cleaner is also biodegradable!

Promising review: “I purchased this cleaner not only because I wanted to support this business, but because I was drawn in by their commitment to green ingredients. I have a 6 month old who will be crawling soon and wanted to find something other than the usual bleach and water that I use. The cleaner works wonders on toilet bowls, sinks, shower spots and bath tub rings! I just spray it on, clean the floor, then come back and scrub/wipe, rinse. I have the lavender scent and will be purchasing more products from their line in the future. So glad to have found this brand!” —Adria

Get a 34-ounce bottle from Pur Home for $12 (available in three scents).

9. A suction shower and bath grip so you and any housemates or guests can confidently step into the bath over any high, slippery ledges without installing something permanent.

Amazon

To install, just apply pressure and flip the latches to activate suction.

Promising review: “I bought this for our shower, because my parents were coming for Christmas and my stepfather is an amputee. He’s almost 70, roughly 6-foot-2 and 250 lbs., (or more post-Christmas feast), and I didn’t hear a crash all week. He survived the holidays without any injury, and the handle is still in place. It was very easy to install, which made me leery because I felt like it was too easy. I can’t get a shower caddy to stay up without crashing, so my fear of being the kid who put in the shower handle wrong and causing a holiday catastrophe was a real concern — my mother would never let me live it down. But rest assured, this thing is easy and sturdy, and the price was great. Holidays are tight enough without my desperate need for karma points and parental approval making extra deductions from my bank account.” —Erin H

Get it from Amazon for $13.99.

10. A roll of self-adhesive marble film to chic-ify your bathroom or kitchen counters in a way that’s simple to remove once that lease is up.

amazon.com

Promising review: “I used this adhesive film to turn two cheap IKEA tables into less cheap looking IKEA tables because I’m not made of money, but I would like others to believe I am. Super simple to use and you get a ton of it for the price. I was really pleased overall. The pattern actually looks like marble, not a weird pixel-y repetitive pattern so that’s great as well. Also it was delivered same day which was miraculous as my DIY initiative tends to fade approximately 48 hours after I discover a project I want to do.” —Spencer House

Get it from Amazon for $10.50+.

11. A pack of skinny velvet hangers that’ll make the most of your small closet space by getting your clothes closer together. Mmmm, snuggly.

amazon.com

Promising review: “These hangers are seriously low profile enough to give you close to twice the amount of space in your closet. Probably not necessarily a good thing, but I revamped my closet with these instead of donating a large portion of clothes to Goodwill (although I had already donated two other closets full until a friend recommended these hangers) and now my clothes all fit neatly! And they are sturdy, no more cracking hangers when you pull off an item of clothing in a tizzy. I’m very happy with my purchase of a few packs of these hangers. It cost pennies in comparison to a closet organizer system.” —Lisa427

Get a 50-pack from Amazon for $22.24+ (available in five colors and various package sizes).

amazon.com

These organizers can hold 12 garments horizontally and hold six pieces vertically.

Promising review: “These have transformed my closet. I can actually see what I have and my clothes are not as wrinkled from being jammed together. An unexpected bonus is that, since I can see at a glance what I have in there, I have been able to inventory and discard things that I do not wear often, plus have re-discovered goodies that I had forgotten about.” —C.F.C.

amazon.com

The Instant Pot’s 6-in-1 functions include: pressure cooker, slow cooker, rice cooker, sauté pan, steamer, and warmer. What a multitasker!

Promising review: “I’ve had this for only two weeks and I swear I haven’t touched my stove or pans. So easy to use and so many functions. You can sauté meat, make hardboiled eggs, rice and beans, and steamed vegetables in a matter of minutes. The Instant Pot community is large, and there are always recipes to be shared. amazon.com, Amazon

Promising review: “The containers are sturdy and work great! Before my fridge looked like a mess you’d find on an episode of Hoarders — now we’re ready for a photo shoot with Martha Stewart! Perhaps that is a slight exaggeration, but truly, I couldn’t get a bottle of salad dressing out before without putting three jars of jelly on the counter, knocking over a bottle of ketchup, and stepping on the dog.
