TikTok shows nursing student going off on Zoom about subpar classes

A nursing student’s rant about virtual classes was recently caught on TikTok—and online students everywhere are feeling her frustration.

Connor Tummond, a nursing student at Arizona State University, caught the outburst from his classmate and posted it to TikTok last week.

The video, also posted to the r/PublicFreakout subreddit, shows a nursing student in Tummond’s class going off during a breakout room session of class about subpar teaching going on as a result of the online transition.

“What the hell is my tuition going to if all the professors you hire either don’t know how to work a camera, don’t know how to work a microphone, or don’t know how to fucking work the internet?” she said. “They’re nurses. Technology is not new to them.”

The coronavirus pandemic has forced classrooms across the world to transiiton online, and college students especially have endured virtual lectures and alternative methods of learning, a phenomenon also called “Zoom University.”

The same transition has sparked a conversation among college students who say they’re paying full tuition without receiving in-person instruction and other experiences of regular college.

The student in the video goes on to say that she understands how some of the professors are not to blame. Still, she expresses frustration over the lack of help when it comes to hands-on lessons like phlebotomy.

“You’re telling me we have to go look for someone, run that someone down. and be like ‘Hi, I’m sorry can you come and help us learn,’” she said.

The video, which garnered over 859,000 views since it was uploaded last week, is captioned “When the quiet girl in class has had it.”

She isn’t the only one. A top comment under the Reddit post came from another student frustrated about professors being unprepared for the transition to online.

“I wholeheartedly agree with her,” u/just_a_soulbro commented. “Only one of my professors knows how to use a PC, the rest waste 30 minutes of the class time just messing with the settings…”

Hundreds more have commented on Tummond’s TikTok post.

“My school canceled our clinicals then got angry at us when we went off on them in a zoom for making us waste money on background checks,” one user commented.

Tummond did not immediately respond to the Daily Dot’s quest for comment.
