Video shows Florida supermarket where almost no one wears masks

A terrifying video circulating on Twitter shows a Florida supermarket not enforcing any rules about wearing face masks or preventing the coronavirus.

The video was taken at Oakes Farms Seed to Table Market in Naples, Florida, and shows a videographer walking down the checkout lanes. From the video, it appears that most people, including cashiers, are not wearing masks. The market’s owner, Alfie Oakes, is not enforcing any mask rules. 

The 15-second clip was posted to Twitter account @davenewworld_2 on Wednesday.

A controversial figure, Oakes has pushed anti-Black Live Matters rhetoric and claimed that the coronavirus pandemic is a hoax. However, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has stripped down legal abilities for cities and counties to impose fines to businesses not enforcing masking mandates.

In a June Facebook post, Oakes wrote: “The COVID19 hoax did not work to bring down our great President and now this…the black lives matter race hoax…REALLY …how about ALL lives matter!! Especially the men and women that are trying to protect our lives and our laws. Without law and order, we cannot even have civil liberty or Commerce in this country.”

Oakes, who allegedly bussed people to Washington, D.C., for the Donald Trump rally and subsequent insurrection on the U.S. Capitol, also said that the death toll (400,000 as of January) who have died from COVID-19 is “hogwash.”

NBC reports that Oakes’ Florida grocery store allows people to skirt masking up by implying that perhaps customers and employees have a medical reason for not wearing one. The report notes a store sign that says: “Due to HIPAA and the 4th Amendment, we cannot legally ask you about your medical condition.”
